Chy an Gwedhen is the ideal base for exploring the rest of Cornwall. St Ives Bay is just a short walk from us, with its miles of golden sandy beaches, easily accessible over the sand dunes. A vast, sometimes wild, sometimes tranquil but always breath taking Cornish golden beach, which covers several miles.
In the summer months, these popular beaches are patrolled by the Lifeguard service. Surfing, wind surfing, kayaking and paragliding are the main water sport activities. Alternatively, do what the locals do and just take in the fantastic views.
St Ives
Only a mile away from the centre of the beautiful town of St Ives, with its picturesque safe, sandy beaches, narrow streets, which wind their way around the harbour, lined with the quaint Cornish fisherman's cottages. The cobbled streets are full to the brim with tiny shops and places of interest.
On Porthmeor beach, is the world-enowned Tate Gallery, with the Barbara Hepworth Museum nearby, plus several excellent galleries and interesting artist studios.
St Ives has a range of cafes, bars and restaurants, that have gained a reputation around the world, for the food they serve and the eclectic range on offer.
There are several 18 hole Golf courses located nearby, with daily memberships available.
Sandy Beaches
There are several golden, sandy beaches locally, with Carbis Bay beach only a short ten minute walk away. A family beach, with a cafe, restaurant, shop and watersports.
St Ives itself, has some of the finest, golden, sandy beaches in Cornwall. There is a small sandy beach on the harbour, with Porthgwidden beach just around the corner. A small, sheltered cove, ideal for young families. Small, safe and sandy with a cafe, shop and small restaurant. Around the headland, is Porthmeor beach, a large, established surfers beach with golden sands and exposed to the Atlantic surf. There is a cafe, shop and restaurant and is close to the centre of town.
On the other side of town, is the main beach, the famous Porthminster Beach. A large golden, sandy beach which is very popular with families.
Coastal Walks
The north Cornwall Coastal Path, is at the bottom of our garden, St Ives, is only a short mile walk in one direction and Carbis Bay beach, in the other. This path continues and extends over St Ives Bay, with Porthkidney Sands a short walk further along. It is easily accessible over the sand dunes and with no motor car in sight. The Sands are a vast, sometimes wild, sometimes tranquil but always breath-taking Cornish golden beach, which covers several miles.

Local Attractions
Situated to the West of Cornwall, on the south shores of St Ives Bay, we are ideally located to visit all of the west Cornwall landmarks within half a day. This includes: Land's End, The Minack Theatre, Cape Cornwall, Kynance Cove, the Lizard Peninsula and St Michael's Mount, where you can stride the causeway, or cross by boat.
Further afield but still an easy visit in a day, are the Lost Gardens of Heligan. These historic gardens were unknown and unseen; lost under a tangle of weeds. It was only the chance discovery, of a door in the ruins that led its restoration. Today, the Lost Gardens are in pride of place, among the finest gardens in Cornwall.
In addition to this there is Tintagel Castle, Lanhydrock House and its Gardens, and of course, the Eden Project. Nestled in a huge crater, massive Biomes, house the largest rainforest in captivity, with stunning plants and exhibitions.
